Who We Are
The Friends of Dennis Senior Citizens, Inc. was founded in 1979 as a private, nonprofit, 501 (c) (3) organization in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Our founding mothers and fathers believed individual citizens could make a difference in the lives of seniors. Almost forty years ago, we asked neighbors, friends and local businesses to help us build a senior center with private money. We held fundraisers, clam bakes, tag sales and knocked on doors for donations as small as five dollars.
Our mission is to be actively concerned about the general welfare and quality of life of senior citizens in the Town of Dennis and to donate to those organizations which are like-minded in caring for seniors.
What We Do
Today, in the senior center we built and gave to the Town of Dennis in 1984, we continue to raise funds privately with a volunteer Board. Whether it’s our Christmas Giving program, Daffodil Day, Jazz in June or the financial assistance we give to individuals—paying for a computer class, a dental bill or tracking device for someone with Alzheimer’s disease, we are here as caring friends to our seniors.
Our Planned Giving includes annual grants to Dennis Mobil Food Pantry, Alzheimer’s Family Support Center of Cape Cod, Sight Loss Services of Cape Cod, Meals on Wheels / Elder Services of Cape Cod & the Islands, Golden Age Program at the Dennis Senior Center, and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
